CEOs would most like to change their organisation's ability to adapt to and drive change. But how do you achieve lasting change?
Achieving sustainable change is complex and difficult. Some people believe that we manage people through change. We believe that you need to manage change through people. This is only possible when people are properly equipped, engaged and rewarded for transforming their part of the business. The components we believe are critical for effecting change that are often missed include:
- Employing top-down engagement, where leaders set the tone for the rest of the organisation. This includes leaders at all levels -- not just the executives. Middle management is seen as resistant, often because the change is done to them rather than with them. Hear more on this in our podcast >
- Establishing clear quantitative and qualitative benefits and measuring progress at the organisational, team, and individual levels. You often hear, what gets measured gets done. What our research shows is that when companies go through a change, leaders too often fail to change their measures to be in alignment with the change.
- Put change at the heart of the organisation – ensuring adequate resourcing and effective and high level sponsorship. All too often change projects are managed by teams who are simply "available" and de-coupled from the main organisation – and only re-introduced at the final stage.
At PwC we work with many of the world's most successful organisations to put their people at the heart of designing, managing and executing lasting change.
