Second quarter 2008
We are pleased to announce the release of our new global thought leadership publication, Intersections* on the analysis of global transportation and logistics transactions. We believe this report to be truly distinctive, as to our knowledge, there is no other trade report that covers all modes of transportation.
This report covers the time period of April 2008 through June 2008 (Q2). The report will be published on a quarterly basis.
Several interesting trends are noted in this analysis. The number of deals in the transportation and logistics industry continues to lag the pace set in 2007 but exceeds the pace set in 2006. When looking at deals outside the United States during the first half of 2008 (68) remains on pace to reach the level of deals announced during 2007 (137) and exceed the level of deals announced during 2006 (119).
The pace of large deals announced during the 1H08 (regardless of acquirer or target nation) exceeds the pace of 2006 and 2007. The largest deal during this quarter was the privatization of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which was also the first deal announced since 2006 with a disclosed value exceeding $10 billion. Transportation & logistics consolidation within China kept apace and exceeded the overall rate of local market (within- border) consolidation for all nations.
This report examines some of the global trends in the industry and provides charts and commentary that support our point of view on these trends. We have the flexibility to morph the document with each quarter and therefore welcome your comments on how to make it more distinctive.
